Furukawa Electric and Vecima Networks Partner to Deliver Next-Generation FTTH Products for Japan’s Cable Television Market
Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (“Furukawa Electric”) and Vecima Networks Inc. (“Vecima”) have launched a collaboration for the supply of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) products. Under the collaboration, Furukawa Electric becomes a preferred partner for delivering Vecima FTTH solutions in the Japanese market and will begin supplying next-generation access products, centered on 10G-EPON products, with a future roadmap including 10G-EPON and 50G-PON.
Background
Communications traffic is growing rapidly, driven by the spread of generative AI and cloud services and the expansion of high-definition video streaming. In the Japanese market as well, demand for higher-speed, higher-capacity networks is rising, and more advanced network infrastructure is required to support high-volume communications.
Under the “Furukawa Electric Group Vision 2030,” Furukawa Electric aims to realize high-speed, high-capacity information and communications infrastructure that supports a Beyond-5G society. In its broadband network business, Furukawa Electric has long provided total FTTH solutions, primarily to Japan’s cable television market, supporting the transition to next-generation networks with a wide range of products underpinning high-capacity data communications technology.
Vecima deploys broadband access technologies globally, including Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) and FTTH solutions, supporting the advancement of access networks.
Details
Drawing on its long-cultivated expertise in PON system development, access network design, and Japan’s CATV market, Furukawa Electric will begin supplying Vecima FTTH-related products to the Japanese market, centered on 10G-EPON solutions, while supporting future technology roadmaps including 10G-EPON and 50G-PON. These products comply with the CableLabs specifications widely adopted in North America and elsewhere, and their high interoperability supports a smooth migration to next-generation access networks.
The details of the collaboration with Vecima and the future technology roadmap, including 50G-PON products, will be introduced at the joint Furukawa Electric–Miharu Communications booth at Cable Technology Show 2026, to be held July 23–24, 2026.
Going forward, the two companies will support technical verification, interoperability testing with existing networks, and deployment initiatives, contributing to the advancement of access networks in the Japanese market.
